Mathilde Roland-Caverivière
Undergraduate / Anti-fungal resistance
Biography
I grew up in Quebec City, where I completed a DEC in sciences, letters and arts at Cégep de Ste-Foy. Discovering how life operates at the cellular level in my biology classes really fascinated me, so I decided to pursue a bachelor’s degree in microbiology at Université Laval. As an undergraduate, I had the opportunity to explore different areas of research by doing summer internships at Syneos Health, a clinical trial facility, and at the CERVO research centre, where I studied behavioral neuroscience and sociability in zebrafish. I knew I wanted to continue in fundamental research but didn’t know in which field until I attended a mycology class on the emergence of antifungal resistance in pathogenic fungi. I chose to join Christian Landry’s lab for an internship and master’s degree to learn more about this subject, which combines my interests in evolution and genetics with a concrete application for human health.
